The Silent Monk keeps HPC systems performing long after deployment — remote support, software stack optimisation, and the kind of long-term reliability that lets your researchers and engineers simply get on with their work.
Ongoing remote management of Slurm-based clusters, GPU systems, and the high-availability components that keep production workloads running without drama.
Tuning and configuration of the full software layer — from schedulers to MPI to scientific applications — so your system runs not just correctly, but well.
Systematic investigation of the bottlenecks and instabilities that only surface at scale, where careful analysis matters more than quick fixes.
Long-term retainers for organisations that want a dependable expert on call — keeping systems healthy, supportable, and reproducible over time.
The Silent Monk is led by Jernej Zidar — an HPC specialist who has spent his career at the point where complex compute systems meet the messy reality of production.
As a technology consultant at Hewlett Packard Enterprise, he deploys, configures, and stabilises large-scale HPC systems in customer environments. He has taken part in the late-stage commissioning of flagship GPU-based supercomputers — coordinated work across tens of cabinets and thousands of accelerators, among the largest such systems in Europe.
Before HPE, he spent more than a decade in Singapore's HPC community — spanning national supercomputing infrastructure, HPC benchmarking on-premise and in the cloud, and A*STAR research computing. It's underpinned by a PhD in Biomedicine, where he used HPC to study amyloid-beta and lipid raft formation — giving him a genuine fluency with the scientific workloads these systems exist to run.
That combination — vendor-grade deployment experience, research-side understanding, and years of hands-on operations — is exactly what The Silent Monk brings to every engagement.
Whether your HPC environment was deployed but never truly tuned, or you simply want a dependable expert on call, send a note describing your setup and what you're hoping to improve.
